Justine Henin advanced to the last eight of the Sony Ericsson Open on Monday at the expense of Elena Vesnina.
The world number one hit six double faults but also smashed eight aces against the Russian to record a 6-2 6-2 victory.
Belgian Henin will now face either Serena Williams or Kaia Kanepi in the quarter-finals.
Defending champion Williams beat Henin in last year's final to lift the title.
Lindsay Davenport was unable to follow up her stunning win over Ana Ivanovic as she crashed out in the fourth round to 13th seed Dinara Safina, 6-3 6-4.
The 32nd-seeded American took an 11-month leave from tennis to give birth to her first child last season, but returned in September and already has titles from Auckland and Memphis this year.
But Davenport was thoroughly outplayed by Russia's Safina, who will now face either 19th-seeded countrywoman Vera Zvonareva or Japan's Ai Sugiyama in the quarter-finals.
Also through to the last eight are sixth seed Venus Williams, who cruised to a 6-3 6-3 victory over Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark, and third seed Svetlana Kuznetsova - a 7-6 (7/4) 6-3 victor against Israel's Shahar Peer.
Fourth-seeded Serbian Jelena Jankovic also made it through to the quarter-finals with a 6-4 7-5 win over Jie Zheng.
