Costa kept on

Monday, 21 December, 2009

Albert Costa will again captain Spain's Davis Cup team next year after having his contract extended for a further 12 months.

Jose Luis Escanuela, president of the Spanish tennis federation (RFET), confirmed the renewal of the former French Open champion's deal at a ceremony on Thursday.

"I am grateful for the confidence placed in me by the federation and particularly its chairman," Costa told www.rfet.es.

"Being the captain of Davis Cup team is difficult but also an honour and, as many people are ready for this task, thank you very much for renewing this confidence in me."

Spain thrashed Czech Republic 5-0 in Barcelona earlier this month to secure a second consecutive triumph in the competition - their fourth overall.

They will begin their defence of the title against Switzerland in March.

Escanuela added: "No doubt the good work done by Albert Costa has been essential to the achievement of winning our fourth Davis Cup.

"We hope that, with him and our great players, we can continue this success."
